While artillery was moved over great distance by draft animals, guns were maneuvered by artillery crews, matrosses in ideal circumstances. Few times in battle are the circumstances ideal, though. A Continental 6 pounder gun is moved up a rise by an artillery crew and infantrymen for an elevated position to engage enemy troops. This scene happened hundreds of times in the American Revolution, from Brandywine to Monmouth and beyond.
