Heirloom tomato and beans garnish this period Redware dish. Despite modern myths,

tomatoes were consumed by many in the 18th Century; the thought that they were

poisonous had disapated by early in the 1700's. They were, in fact, cultivated and eaten

regularly in both England and America.
