Twenty three year old George Washington accompanied
Major General Edward Braddock in 1755 as an aid-de-camp
for the expedition against the French Fort Duquesne. He
developed a friendship with Captain Robert Orme, who was
also an aid to the General.
Braddock was wounded and later died at the
Battle of Monongahela . Orme was also wounded, leaving
Washington the only person left to distribute the General's orders.
This later became known as Braddock's Defeat .
