"A Cold Drink"

-One of the many daily tasks in the 18th Century was the fetching of water. The farther away the water source, the more precious the commodity. Almost all villages, Native and settlers alike, were located very near waterways for drinking water, as well as commerce, game, and transportation. Here a Lenni Lenape woman gathers water in her brass kettle. Her dress has heavy European influence; the only true Native garb is her moccasins.
